"The Wall" Rahul Dravid announces his retirement

Dravid announcing his retirement
Rahul Dravid announced his retirement from international cricket at his home ground, the Chinnaswamy Stadium, in a formal function ending his 16 years long International cricketing career. Dravid has already declared his retirement from One Day International and T20 on August 7, 2011. And now on March 9, 2012, he announced his retirement from International cricket, which means we can no longer see his game in Test matches as well.

Dravid is a well-established Indian cricketer. He was also captain of the Indian national cricket team in both Test and ODI. Dravid is considered to be one of the finest classical test player in the world of cricket. Dravid had a remarkable career but clearly it was over-shadowed. He is often considered as one of the most dependable batsman. He is also nicknamed “The Wall” by his team mates and opponents as his game play was really steady and  it was really hard to take his wicket.

Dravid has been awarded with Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2000 and ICC Player of the Year in 2004. He has taken highest number of catches in Test Matches, and is the second highest run-getter in history of Test Cricket (only surpassed by his team-mate Sachin Tendulkar).
