A combined effort from the bowlers and fielders from English team provided them opportunity to overcome their shortcomings in batting. England chose to bat after winning the toss. Except Pietersen, non of the other batsman were successful in staying on the crease or making good runs. By the time their innings completed, they were able to make only 129 runs; not a very comfortable target considering they were playing Pakistan.
Pakistan came into the crease with a target of 130 runs but all their efforts were foiled by English bowlers and fielders. Pakistan were put under pressure. England was able to keep Pakistani run-rate under control and hence Pakistan couldn't manage to reach the required target within 20 overs.
